The Emerging Leader Fellowship program is designed to train and support excellent secondary leaders from with in their own schools. Recognizing the gaps between current leadership programs and school needs, the Center has created a Fellowship that trains high performing teachers while they are still in the classroom, giving them the tools they need to grow professionally without leaving the school culture they are so invested in.
In our research, we have found that the most successful programs are researched-based, have curricular coherence, incorporate field-based internships, rely on problem-based learning, include cohort groups, and work with mentors. It is these components that are the building blocks of our program. We are also committed to providing a rigorous curriculum that is competitive with other high-quality leadership programs in the country.
By zeroing in on excellent teachers who already have a deep investment in a particular school, we work with people who are prepared for the day-to-day challenges of becoming a secondary school leader. Rather than take these teachers out of the classroom during their training, this program allows them to remain teaching on a partially reduced schedule, while simultaneously getting trained to be a future leader.
The 2008-2009 Fellowship year (Cohort 2) begins this summer, July 2008. We are no longer accepting Applications for Cohort 2. If you have any questions, please contact Glenn Liebeck at gliebeck@nycchartercenter.org.
