Test Results

As of the 2005-2006 school year, NCLB requires every state to test students in English Language Arts (ELA) and math in grades 3 - 8 and in high school. Under New York State law, charter schools are obligated to comply with these testing requirements.

Currently, New York elementary and middle school students take state achievement tests in ELA and math in grades 3 - 8. In addition, students take science tests in grades 4 and 8 and social studies in grades 5 and 8. In high school, students take the Regent's examinations in English, math, social studies and science.

Charter School Results on 2008 State Tests

For five years New York City charter schools - which serve student populations that are almost 90% African-American and Latino - once again outperformed their host districts and the city as a whole in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math.

CORRECTION: The ELA proficiency for third graders at Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy II was incorrect; the students are in fact 81% proficient! If you downloaded the ELA results by school and grade before Wednesday, June 25, please disregard the file and reference the link below. We sincerely apologize for any confusion.
